With the aide of computers setup all around the room, AHS students are learning technical skills to better prepare them for job opportunities after high school.  The teaching tools were made available through a generous grant from the State of Oregon and a partnership with Hampton Affiliates as well as many local businesses.

The annual powderpuff football game during homecoming week matched the classes up in a fun filled evening at CMH field.

The district's sixteen youngest students opened our first preschool this week.  Equipped with colorful cartoon backpacks and a lot of energy, nervousness and a few tears, the warm and caring staff soon had the kids loving the new experience.

The Portland Trailblazers brought their roadshow to Lewis and Clark and energized the young fan base for the coming basketball season.  Along with some exciting trike races, they brought gifts for the school and the kids.

For the last several years, students in Mr. Luhr's fifth grade class have been celebrating constitution day by presenting the importance of the document to other classes in the school.  

Written by James Madison in 1787, at seven articles and twenty-seven amendments, it is the shortest constitution in the world.

Opening day of school brought parents into the elementary schools, a power outage at the middle school, teachers finding their loud voice and friends catching up on what they did this summer.

Wide eyed and a little nervous, nearly 50 little ones entering kindergarten this year had the opportunity to come to school this summer and get a glimpse of what to expect when school starts in September.  Astor principal, Kate Gohr praised the teachers that worked with the kids, "Our teachers did a great job of giving the kids a head start for the new school year."

Rejuvinated and ready for another school year, district teachers this week came back from summer vacation and attended workshops to learn new strategies for school improvement.  All the district's teachers came together and worked on activities for the district's improvement plan and then attended workshops on specific areas to strengthen their teaching skills.
